Roof repairs
Signs Your Roof May Need a Repair
A small stain or an out-of-place tile can raise a big question: does the roof need attention? Here are practical signs to note before you speak to a roofer.

Changes you can spot from the ground
Look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, damaged ridge details, or debris that has come off the roof after wind. You may also notice water running where it normally does not, particularly around a chimney or roof edge.
You do not need to climb up for a closer look. A photograph from a safe position can help show which part of the roof is involved.
Signs inside the property
Damp patches, water marks or peeling finishes near a ceiling can indicate water is getting in. Note when the mark appeared and whether it changes during heavy rain or wind. Water can travel before it becomes visible, so the stain may not sit directly below the cause.
What to tell a roofer
Share the property location, the part of the roof involved, when you first noticed the issue and any safe photographs you have. If water is actively entering, explain that when you call so the current call-out availability can be discussed.
The right next step depends on the roof's condition and access. An inspection can help establish whether a local repair or wider work is appropriate.
